Supporting Grass Roots Talent Development

Have a look at the first of three films we are making this year with Rory Graham a.k.a Rag’n’Bone Man. The films will shine a light into our Grass Roots Talent Development projects, Social Innovation work and Rory’s involvement with AudioActive as Patron of the charity. This film documents Rory’s visit to Sessions, our open access skills development programme in Brighton, Hove & Eastbourne. 70 Young People crammed into a studio at Brighton Youth Centre to join in a massive cypher with Rag’n’Bone Man. Elsewhere in the building Rory helped to lead a production session and sat in with a live band rehearsal. Rory answered questions and offered some personal advice to young artists on how to forge their careers in music. He also spoke to the press, helping to spread the word about AudioActive’s important work.

It’s about confidence and inclusiveness. People can feel they’re part of something without being judged. It’s a daunting thing for everyone to sing and play an instrument for the first time. It’s important to be encouraged – Rory Graham

The day ended with a party, where Rory and fellow Rum Committee member/AudioActive practitioner Gi3mo played some of their favourite records – filling the dance floor. We’re massively grateful to Rory and also to Sony Headphones and Sony Music/Columbia Records – who helped make the day possible. It was a really positive experience for everyone involved, and genuinely inspiring for so many young and upcoming artists. Watch this space for more films throughout the first half of this year…
